The tow out to Arizona was long but uneventful. We arrived at the track Friday Night. We were able to get set up in the paddock and get the car unloaded and ready for Saturday Practice.

After about 5 laps on the "East" track I was feeling confident with the speed. A few minor adjustments and we would be ready for Qualifying. Qualifying had us in the Pole Position and about 1 sec. slower than the track record for Spec Miata. The race started just after lunch and I jumped to an early lead. After about 13 laps, the tires started to succumb to the desert heat and felt as if somebody gave me sponges for tires. Kevin Haywood in 2 nd started closing the gap between us and was able to get in position to pass when the opportunity presented itself. Thankfully the tires had recovered as a result of my attempting to save them and I was able to hold off a hard-charging Haywood for the win.
Sunday was a bit cooler and gave us better opportunity for closing in on the track record in qualifying. Kevin Haywood qualified in the Pole Position with me in #2 position. At the start of the race Kevin and I raced side by side through the first 2 turns, very exciting and clean racing, I then took the lead. I think Kevin was waiting for my tires to go to mush again, but our prep before the race paid off this time and the tires stayed firm throughout. We managed to get to within 4 tenths of the track record during the race. I was able to hold off Kevin for the second win of the double race weekend. We had a great time and look forward to racing with the Arizona Region in the future.
