  WWR finishes 1-2 at VIR

Sunday April 1, 2007, Danville VA.

Rounds 3 and 4 of the Nasa Mid Atlantic Spec Miata Challenge started off with a beautiful day in Danville, VA at Virginia International Raceway. Saturday weather couldnt have been more perfect for racing, temperature clocking in at a cool 70 degrees with low humidity and plenty of nice sunshine.

Saturday started off with a solid qualifying effort from team WWR. Alan put the #56 car on the pole with Evan and the #55 car starting directly behind him in the second row out of 28 Spec Miata entries. After a great start from both teammates, Evan moved up to grab the 2nd spot right behind the 56 car. Alan and Evan would proceed to trade positions over the next several laps while at the same time working together to build a substantial lead over the field. Alan finished on the top spot of the podium, clocking the fastest lap of the race with Evan finishing right behind for the silver medal.
Sunday brought more competition and definately more excitement along with it. Conditions were cooler and slipperier, with qualifying first session in the morning on a damp and extremely slick track. Again Alan took the pole, with Evan starting 2 rows back in 5th, behind Rich Romin and Sunday newcomers Pro-SM champ Payton Wilson and SCCA National competitor Jason OWenby.
Another solid start for both WWR drivers moved Evan up into 4th, and Alan into a healthy lead. Evan battled with Rich, Payton and Jason in the pack, moving as high as 2nd but settling into 4th as Alan took advantage and checked out on the field. Evan battled with Rich Romin while Payton and Jason went at it just ahead. Payton was taken out in oak tree by a lonely Honda Civic who tried to go 3 wide with Payton and Jason but couldn't hold onto his line. Meanwhile, the attrition continued as Alan went for a bumpy ride in the grass outside of turn 10 "Southbend" , managed to save it and get it back on the track but the offroading adventure had broken his differential mount which finished his day.
Evan and Rich continued to lock bumpers but ultimately traffic in key spots would prove difficult to overcome, and Evan took the final podium spot for Sunday's race.
Next on the WWR Schedule, Alan takes aim at the SCCA National race at Summit Point with a new diff mount, and a new paintjob too!
